高台寺 · Buddhist temple
Kodai-ji was established in 1606 by Kita-no-Mandokoro (1548–1624) in memory of her husband, Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536–1598). It belongs to the Kenninji sect of the Rinzai school.
Six structures here are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan: the Founder's Hall (Kaisando), the Sanctuary (Otama-ya), two teahouses called Kasatei and Shiguretei, the Omotemon gate, and the Moon Viewing Pavilion (Kangetsudai). The garden is attributed to the landscape designer Kobori Enshu (1579–1647).
