Eishoji Temple
英勝寺 · Buddhist temple
The Kamakura City Tourist Association records that Eishoji Temple is Kamakura's only convent, founded by Lady Okachi, a concubine of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Tokugawa shogun, and that it stands on land which had belonged to Ota Dokan, an ancestor of hers.
The association names the sanmon gate with its carved decoration, the Buddha hall, the bell tower, and the shido hall with its karamon gate, and records that the Tokugawa three-leaf hollyhock crest appears in the hall and on other buildings. The Buddha hall, the gate and the bell tower are on the national cultural property register.
