What this site records when you read it, and what it does not.
Who runs this site
GOD ROAD JAPAN is run by 3TEQ Inc., a company registered in Japan. The site publishes visiting information about shrines and temples in Japan, checked against each place's own source.
What we record when you read a page
We count how the site is used, so we can tell which pages help people plan a visit. For each page view, each link followed within the site, and each click on a link that leaves it, we store:
- the time of the event
- which page it happened on, and which page it led to
- which outbound link was used, if any
- whether you arrived from a search engine, a social site, another page on this site, or directly — not the address you came from
- your country, as a two-letter code
- whether the device is a desktop, a mobile or a tablet
What we do not record
- We do not set cookies. Nothing is stored in your browser to recognise you later.
- We do not store your IP address.
- We do not store your full browser identification string. We keep only whether the device looked like a desktop, a mobile or a tablet, and the name of the rule that decided it.
- We do not ask for your name, email address or any account.
- We do not build a profile of you, and we cannot link one visit to another.
Why we record it
To see which pages are read and which links are used, so we can decide what to check and write next. The counts are read as daily totals. They are not used to target advertising and are not sold.
Links that leave this site
Links to a shrine's or temple's own page, and to tourism or government pages, leave this site. Once you follow one, that site's own rules apply, not ours. Some outbound links pass through an address on this site so the click can be counted; it then sends you straight on.
Affiliate links
No link on this site earns us a commission. If that ever changes, the page carrying such a link will say so on the page itself, before the link, and this notice will be revised on the same day.
How long we keep it
Individual event records are stored on the site's own infrastructure and are used to produce daily totals. We delete event records older than 13 months. The deletion runs once a month, so a record may stay for up to a month beyond that. The daily totals, which do not identify a visit, are kept.
