Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
鶴岡八幡宮 · Shinto shrine
The Kamakura City Tourist Association records that Minamoto no Yoriyoshi built a branch of Iwashimizu Hachimangu near the Yuigahama shore, and that a century later Minamoto no Yoritomo moved it to its present site. Yoritomo was devoted to the Hachiman deity, the tutelary god of warriors, and the shrine was later supported by the Hojo clan.
Wakamiya Oji Avenue, which Yoritomo had built, runs from the shrine straight towards the sea. The association records that yabusame horseback archery is performed at the annual festival in September. The upper shrine's main hall, offering hall and worship hall are on the national cultural property register.
