Chokokuji Temple

Nagano City's official travel guide records that Chokokuji is the family temple of the Sanada family, the lords of the Matsushiro domain, and that the roof carries the Rokumonsen, one of the family emblems. It records that the temple houses the graves of the lords of the domain as well as the mausoleums of Nobuyuki and Nobuhiro.
The guide records that the mausoleum of Nobuyuki is an important cultural asset, with sculptures of cranes on its gables attributed to Jingoro Hidari and paintings on the coffered ceiling attributed to Tan-yu Kano. The mausoleums and the graves are visited by reservation; the precincts themselves carry no charge.

A reservation is needed for the mausoleums and the graves. The tourism bodies named below disagree about the opening times and the charge, so we do not give either.
