Kofukuji Temple

東明山興福寺 · Buddhist temple

Discover Nagasaki records that Kofuku-ji is Japan's first Chinese temple of the Obaku school, and that it goes back to a small monastery built here in 1620 by Ming-dynasty merchants as a place to pray for a safe voyage.

The temple's main hall, the Daiyu Hoden, is on the national cultural property register. The temple's own pages give the admission charges above.

From Nagasaki Station, take the tram bound for Hotarujaya, get off at Shiyakusho after about 4 minutes — about 5 minutes on foot
From the Nagasaki Station east exit bus stop, about 4 minutes by bus, get off at Shiyakusho-ue — 9 minutes on foot
