Shinyakushiji Temple
華厳宗 日輪山 新薬師寺 · Buddhist temple
The Nara City Tourism Association records that Shinyakushiji was founded in 747 by Empress Komyo as a prayer for Emperor Shomu's recovery, and that the main hall, a National Treasure, survives from the original construction.
The association records that the main hall holds a wooden seated Yakushi Nyorai and, around it on a circular earth platform, the Twelve Divine Generals in clay, both National Treasures. The east and south gates, the bell tower and the statue hall date from the Kamakura period and are Important Cultural Properties.
